Divers will practice in Big Blue River

A group of divers are planning to practice in the Big Blue River, near where a car was dumped.

The car has been in the river for a few weeks and has not yet been removed. But police have gotten a few calls about it, Edinburgh Police Chief David Mann said.

Now, Indiana Department of Natural Resources divers plan to practice their skills in the area and look at how to remove the vehicle, Indiana Conservation Officer Jet Quillen said.

Divers can practice looking in a submerged vehicle for people and how to develop a safe plan to get the vehicle removed, Capt. Bill Brown said.

So far, the water in the river has been too high or too fast, and the vehicle isn’t in a position to be easily removed. So divers aren’t yet sure when they will get into the water to remove it, Quillen said.
