Rosella Hartley

INDIANAPOLIS

Rosella Hartley, age 94, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 25, 2016. She was a resident of Indianapolis.

She was born in Dubintown, Kentucky, on Dec. 17, 1921, the only child of Thomas and Flossie Redd, who preceded her in death.

She was married to Kelso E. Hartley for 65 years before he passed away in 2005. Daughter Patricia Simms (Rich) of New York also predeceased her.

She is survived by her husband, Gus Howard; daughter, Carol Joseph (Rex); grandchildren, Rebecca Wood (Chris), Andrea Jahnke, Matt Joseph (Heather), Davida Gable (Brad Franz) and Juanita Gable; and great-grandchildren, Odessa and Novella Franz, Caleb, Conner, Cooper, and Collin Wood, Joseph and Savannah Jahnke, and Will, Caroline and Parker Joseph.

Rosella graduated from Fairview High School in Dayton, Ohio and later worked at Rikes Department Store. She moved to Indianapolis in 1962, where she worked at Amax Coal in accounting until her retirement in 1985.

She was a faithful member of Southport Presbyterian Church for 53 years, where she actively served in the Sunday nursery, food ministry, children’s camps, DUOS, and Bible studies, in addition to being a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital and participating in Bible Study Fellowship.

In earlier years she led a Girl Scout troop and chaperoned the church youth group at College Hill Presbyterian Church in Dayton, Ohio.

Ever active, she enjoyed walking, traveling, volunteering, playing the piano, sewing, camping, and reading her Bible.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who leaves a legacy of faith and family.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Southport Presbyterian Church, 7525 McFarland Blvd., Indianapolis, with visitation beginning at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Southport Presbyterian Church or St. Francis Healthcare Foundation.
