Smoke on the Square A&A

The annual Smoke on the Square barbecue competition in downtown Franklin begins today and continues through Saturday night. The regional competition brings foodies from the surrounding region to compete for the top prize for their fare.

How many teams are there competing and where are they from?

More than 25 teams from Indiana and Ohio are competing for the top prize.

Who judges the competition?

Thirty-eight judges are signed up, but there’s also a people’s choice award beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday until tickets are sold out.

What entertainment will there be?

“Pirates of the Caribbean” will be shown at the Artcraft Theatre both days at 2 and 7:30 p.m. A classic car cruise-in will be at 5 p.m. today on North Main Street. Blue River Band will play 7 to 10 tonight, and more local live entertainment will go on all day on Saturday. A “Colts in Motion” memorabilia exhibit will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in front of the Artcraft.

Will barbecue be the only thing served?

No. Lots of great eats from local food vendors will be set up both days all day.
