Section of King Street ready for traffic

Construction is finished on one section of a Franklin street, but more work continues further east.

On King Street, workers recently finished reconstructing the road between Forsythe Street and the bridge over Hurricane Creek. Crews also added new sewers, lighting, sidewalks and curbs and a new bike lane.

The road had been closed since April.

Work is continuing on King Street further east, near Interstate 65.

Crews have started work on a project to improve the gateway into the city, including building a roundabout on Paris Drive, adding new pillars and other decorative features and a new trail.

Work likely won’t be done until next summer, city engineer Travis Underhill said.

Currently, the right lane of westbound King Street is closed, near the interstate. And motorists should expect one lane to be closed on the road in one or both directions for the rest of the summer, Underhill said.
