Roundabout chatter

Plans for improvements to the intersections of Smith Valley Road and Madison Avenue and Meridian Street have changed as the overall scope of the project has grown. Here’s what you need to know:

Eastbound Smith Valley Road: Motorists will not be able to turn left onto northbound U.S. 31, and will instead use a “jug handle” design. Traffic will cross the intersection and then turn right into a loop that will merge into northbound U.S. 31.

Southbound Madison Avenue: A median will separate north and southbound traffic, and a crosswalk will be built. The road will be split into three directional lanes taking motorists straight and right to westbound Smith Valley Road.

Southbound Meridian Street: A crosswalk will be built, and a small median will separate north and southbound traffic. Motorists will only be able to go right, or west on Smith Valley Road.

Westbound Smith Valley Road: To head south on U.S. 31 from Smith Valley Road, traffic will use the roundabout to Madison Avenue. Left turns at U.S. 31 will not be allowed.
