Ribs, pet parade, music and more at Smoke on the Square

The annual Smoke on the Square regional barbecue competition comes back to downtown Franklin on Friday and Saturday.

More than 25 teams from Indiana and Ohio will compete for the top prize for their briskets or ribs.

Thirty-eight judges are signed up, but there’s also a people’s choice award beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday until tickets are sold out.

Lots of great eats from local food vendors will be set up both days all day.

The competition brings many non-food festivities to the downtown as well. Kids activities will be available 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” will be shown at the Artcraft Theatre both days at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

A classic car cruise-in will be at 5 p.m. Friday on North Main Street.

Blue River Band will play 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and more local live entertainment will go on all day on Saturday.

A “Colts in Motion” memorabilia exhibit will be available for viewing 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in front of the Artcraft.

Visitors should be sure to check out the pet parade at 11 a.m. June 25. For more information and to sign up your pet and learn complete rules, visit discoverdowntownfranklin.com, click on the link for “Smoke on the Square” and download the PDF entry form.
