May unemployment rate down

Fewer people were out of work last month, when compared to the same time period last year.

In May, the county’s unemployment rate was 3.6 percent, a drop from a rate of 4.1 percent in May 2015.

The rate also was down from the previous month this year, when unemployment was 4 percent in April, according to a report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Across central Indiana, unemployment rates were down last month, with most at or below 4 percent.

At the same time, the labor force has continued to grow.

In Johnson County, the labor force was more than 79,000 people, compared to more than 77,000 a year ago, the report said.

And the number of people without work continues to fall, with about 2,800 out of work last month, compared to 3,200 last year, the report said.
