Man arrested in Edinburgh bar break-in

Police arrested a man they said surveillance video showed taking cash and items from an Edinburgh bar.

James Alverson Jr., 41, Edinburgh, was arrested on two charges of burglary and a charge of theft and resisting law enforcement.

On June 7 and 14, the owner of Outer Limits Bar off U.S. 31 in Edinburgh reported the bar had been broken into and someone had stolen cash, electronics and tools.

Police began investigating and reviewed surveillance cameras inside the bar, which showed a man come into the bar and take cash from the register June 7, and that same man come in and go through drawers and cabinets June 14, according to the Edinburgh Police Department report.

Both the owner and police identified the man as Alverson, the report said.

The owner also found that a television, tools and hundreds of dollars in cash were missing from the bar, the report said.

Alverson was arrested Friday outside an Edinburgh home, where officers had been called on a report of a stolen vehicle. Alverson ran from officers but then stopped and was arrested, the report said.

Alverson, 515 Memorial Drive, was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $16,000 bond.
