Drink up your art talents; create a wine label

Daily Journal staff report

Local artists have the chance to bring their work to locally produced wine later this year.

The Greater Greenwood Arts Council and Mallow Run Winery jointly host the annual art competition that will put a selected local artist’s work on a Mallow Run wine in September.

All local artists are invited to submit their work. Submissions are being accepted through July 15.

This year’s theme is “My Hometown.” The fifth Artist Series wine, and the label featuring the winning artwork, will be released during the Time for Three concert on the lawn at Mallow Run Winery on Sept. 10.

Each artist may submit a maximum of three works. Artwork must be original, completed within the past three years and unframed. Acceptable media are two-dimensional works of oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel/colored pencil, and pen and ink/charcoal and mixed media.

No computer art, photographs, sculptures or reproductions are accepted.

The 2016 wine will be a red blend. The background color on the label will be chosen to compliment the art and antique green bottle.

The final reproduced label size will be approximately 2.5 by 2.5 inches, and may be a cropped portion of the original.

The fee is $25 for up to three entries.

The winning artist will be introduced on stage at the September concert and honored at a private wine release reception. Their artwork will be hung in the Gallery at the Sycamore at Mallow Run, the winery’s event venue opening this summer.

A portion of the proceeds from Artist Series wines is donated to the arts council to promote local arts and art awareness in the Greenwood community.
