FRANKLIN
Martha J. (Doty) Baker, 82, of Franklin, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Franklin United Methodist Community.
She was born Dec. 1, 1933, in Smith Valley, Greenwood to Grover Cleveland Doty and Orpha Ruth (Day) Doty.
She married Grover Baker on Aug. 22, 1975; he preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1981.
She attended Center Grove schools.
She had been a custodian at Franklin community schools and also had worked in food service. She previously had been a nurse’s assistant at the Indiana Masonic Home and previously at the Varynit Mills in Franklin.
She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Franklin.
She enjoyed traveling, watching basketball and football.
Survivors include her sister, Marline Walker (Keith) of Brown County; and 32 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Sheldon M. Doty, Claude Eugene Doty, Vennie R. Doty Smithey, Thelma May Doty Smithey, Chileen Doty, Lowell A. Doty, Emeline Doty, Winnafred Doty, Delmar D. Doty, Geraldine Doty, Elizabeth F. Doty Monroe Walden, Lawrence W. Doty, Harlan Doty, and an infant brother.
The Rev. Michael Johnson will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
