Wayne H. Kincaid

GREENWOOD

Wayne H. Kincaid of Greenwood completed his journey of life in this world and passed on into eternity Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

He was born March 9, 1927, on a farm east of Lebanon.

He is survived by his wife, Ginny (Virginia Barkes), of 62 years; and two sons, Eric of New York City and Rex of Williamsburg; as well as daughter-in-law, Laurie; and three grandchildren, Hannah, Kelly and Luke (wife Alexis and great-granddaughter, McKenzie)

He had a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a master’s degree from Indiana University. He had also attended several other universities, including Notre Dame and MIT.

He was an educator. He began his career in Hebron, teaching mathematics and science in 1951. In 1952, he accepted a similar position at Emmerich Manual High School. In 1958 he was recognized nationally with a meritorious citation in the National Science Teacher Achievement Recognition program. He was awarded a one-year grant to study ways of teaching about atomic energy by The Fund for the Advancement of Education during the 1955-56 school year.

In 1969, he was a member of the National Association of Secondary Principals Study Mission to Europe. He was the first president of the Indianapolis Association of Administrators, Supervisors and Consultants. He had a variety of positions in the Indianapolis Public Schools, including department head of mathematics and science and principal of Emmerich Manual High School. He also was a vice principal of Northwest High School, assistant to the associate superintendent, assistant to the superintendent and assistant superintendent of the Indianapolis Public Schools for Special Services. He retired from the latter position in 1989.

During his career, he became known as an effective administrator who solved assigned tasks in an efficient and effective manner. In all situations he could be relied on to represent the best interests of the students. He counted many of his former students among his best friends.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood United Methodist Church, 525 N. Madison Ave. Greenwood, with viewing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. There will be a fellowship meal at Greenwood United Methodist Church following the committal service.
