Trees, power lines downed in storm

Workers spent hours cleaning up trees and limbs that fell across roads, vehicles and a few homes after a thunderstorm with strong winds.

The storm blew through Johnson County on Wednesday afternoon, bringing strong winds and some heavy rain to areas of Franklin, Bargersville, Greenwood and the Center Grove area.

But Johnson County didn’t get as much damage or rain as other areas, such as Marion County, local emergency management director Stephanie Sichting said.

At one point after the storms, about 1,000 people were without power due to lines being blown down or trees and limbs knocking them down, Sichting said. Nearly every customer’s power had been restored by Thursday morning.

A few roads also had to be closed due to downed trees or power lines, she said.

Crews spent several hours Wednesday night and Thursday cleaning up, she said.

Much of the damage reported was minor, and Johnson County did not get the rainfall that some other areas did. In Marion County, flooding was reported, but none was reported locally, she said.

“We got lucky,” she said.
