Scooter rider stable after accident

A man remains at an Indianapolis hospital two days after he was struck while riding his scooter on U.S. 31.

Todd D. Bowles, 24, Bargersville, was heading north on U.S. 31 near Pushville Road, which was in a construction area when the accident happened on Tuesday morning.

Another driver, Jeffry A. Sims, 30, Whiteland, passed a vehicle that turned in front of him. When he came up to Bowles, who was on a motorized scooter, Bowles was moving slower than the other traffic. Sims told police he didn’t have time to stop and struck the back of the scooter, according to the Greenwood Police Department accident report.

Bowles was thrown from the scooter, struck the windshield of Sims’ vehicle and then was thrown onto the pavement, the report said. Bowles had multiple, severe injuries, including fractures, cuts, swelling and road rash. He also had a broken leg, the report said.

Bowles was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Thursday.
