Woman loses $5,000 in scams

Daily Journal staff reports

A Center Grove area woman lost more than $5,000 in phone scams, police said.

The woman’s daughter contacted the sheriff’s office, and said her mother had been victim to multiple scams, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

She told deputies that her mother had been writing checks and sending them to people, including one to someone claiming to be a travel agency who said she had won a cruise and another saying they were from the FBI, the report said.

The woman’s bank said the incidents needed to be reported to the police so they could begin a fraud investigation, the report said.
