Woman loses money in dog breeder scam

A Center Grove area woman lost $2,000 in a scam to someone who claimed to breed dogs, police said.

The woman reported to police that she had contacted a company online called Purebred Breeders to buy a puppy. The company told her they would deliver the dog to her, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

She sent the company nearly $2,100 but became suspicious when she could not get additional details about the breeder, and the location to meet was changed. The company also had originally said they were located in northeastern Indiana, but then said the dog was being flown into Indianapolis, the report said.

The woman also tried to get a refund, but could not, the report said.
