Police investigate vehicle break-ins in Edinburgh

At least eight vehicles were broken into at an Edinburgh golf course, and a thief or thieves tried again a day later.

The break-ins were reported Friday just after noon at Timbergate Golf Course, just off State Road 252 and Interstate 65.

The thief or thieves smashed the windows on the vehicles and stole items from inside, including two laptops, a purse, a wallet and a briefcase, Edinburgh Police Chief David Mann said.

Another theft was attempted Saturday but was not successful, Mann said.

Police are investigating, and witnesses said a silver sport-utility vehicle had been spotted in the area around the time of thefts, he said.

Police also are warning people to keep any items in their vehicles in the trunk or some other locked area, out of view, Mann said.
