Thelma B. Shearls

GREENWOOD

Our beloved mother, Thelma B. Shearls, 95 years old, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, June 11, 2016, just days after beseeching Jesus, “come on, Lord; Lord, come on.”

Thelma was born May 20, 1921, in Kettle, Kentucky, to Rhyne and Allie Blythe.

She was a homemaker, a wonderful cook, and enjoyed traveling and playing bingo.

After raising her family, she enjoyed working at L.S. Ayers. Also, earlier in her life, she enjoyed demonstrating and selling Emmons jewelry at home parties. At Christmastime, she was employed at the post office.

She and her husband, Clyde, enjoyed spending winters in St. Petersburg, Florida, after retirement.

The love of her life was her family. She adored her grandchildren as they did her.

Survivors include her son, Edward Shearls (Carol), daughters, Gaye Gentry-Dickey (John P.) and Teresa Phillippe (John); sister, Christine Sharp; grandchildren, Jaime Surenkamp (John), Gayle Rhodes (Jeff), Jeff Gentry (Carrie), Mandy Begley and Jonathan Phillippe (Lara); great-grandson, Sebastian Clyde Gentry; step-grandchildren, John (Linda), Mark (Catherine), Gary (Leslie), Mike (Kari), Susan, Christine, Catherine (Scott) and Sherry (Matthew); step-great-grandchildren, Alexa, Lily, Monica, Sam, John, Courtney, Dalton, Logan, Connor, Hunter, Peyton; and step-great-great-granddaughter, Sonnet.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, in 1991; a brother, Morris Blythe, three sisters, Effie Adams, Evie Williams, Viola Rich; and a niece, Millie Adkins.

Thelma belonged to Calvary Baptist Church and was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ all her life.

Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
