Carl Jackson (C. Jack) Scott, of Franklin, died on Friday, June 10, 2016.

The son of Franklin residents, Carl and Eva (Green) Scott, Jack was born Sep. 27, 1927.

He was educated in the Franklin schools and graduated from Franklin High School in 1945. He earned a degree in Latin and history from Franklin College in 1949, where he was a member of Eta Sigma Phi classical language honorary, was active in Phi Delta Theta fraternity and sang in the choir.

Throughout his life Mr. Scott’s interests were primarily in music. As boy a soprano, he performed throughout central Indiana. He sang in the choirs at the Tabernacle Christian Church for nearly 50 years. He was also a charter member of the Voices, a local choral group.

After graduating from Franklin College, Mr. Scott was employed as a Latin teacher at Crawfordsville High School for seven years, with two years out for military service during the Korean War. He quit teaching in 1956 and after marrying Emma Jean (Walters) Scott, was employed by Harcourt Brace Publishing Co. as a sales representative and part-time consultant for 33 years.

Mr. Scott was a member of the Phi Delta Theta alumni club, the American Legion, Johnson County Historical Society, Franklin Heritage, the Elks Club and the Tabernacle Christian Church.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Emma Jean; daughter, Sue Ellen Scott (Jani Barron) of Safety Harbor, Florida, son, Gregory Jackson Scott (Judith Contreni) of Ellicott City, Maryland; and three grandchildren, Emily Katharine Scott, Lauren Elizabeth Scott and Evan Gregory Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest son, Brian Keith Scott of New York City; his sister, Alice Mae Phenninger of Homer, Alaska; half-brother, Robert C. Scott of Glendale, Arizona, and half-sisters, Valeria Scott Moore, Virginia Murray and Elizabeth Vaught.

Visitation for Mr. Scott will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Rev. Evie Stuard will conduct a service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Tabernacle Christian Church, 198 N. Water St., Franklin.
