Noble E. Deer

BARGERSVILLE

Noble E. Deer, 98, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016. He was a lifelong resident of Bargersville.

He was born Aug. 10, 1917, in Bargersville to Oscar and Elsie (Henderson) Deer. He married Ethel Lillian (Grabeel) on Nov. 28, 1948. She preceded him in passing in February 1998.

Noble is survived by three children, Roy Deer of Bargersville, Glenn (Susan) Deer of Cincinnati, Ohio and Carol (Jason) Gehrs of Iowa City, Iowa; three grandchildren, Joy (Ryan) Heitkamp, Paxton Deer and Jared (Whitney) Gehrs and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Heitkamp and Teagan Heitkamp. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Netherland of Franklin.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; wife, Ethel and brother, Victor Deer.

He was a graduate of Union High School. Noble was the oldest living alumni of Union. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served as a B-24 bomber co-pilot. Noble was a prisoner of war for 13 months at the Stalag Luft No.1 in Northern Germany.

He was the oldest and longest member of Providence Christian where he served as a former deacon and elder. He was a member of the Union Village Masonic Lodge No. 545, F&A.M. and Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite.

The Rev. Steve Sorensen will conduct a Celebration of Noble’s life at 11 a.m. Monday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m.at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Providence Christian Church, 40890 West 100 North, Bargersville, IN 46106 and/or to the Union Village Masonic Lodge No. 545, F & A M, 400 W. 100 North, Bargersville, IN 46106.
