Wellmert Andrew “Sam” Fischer

Wellmert Andrew “Sam” Fischer, 98, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Prince’s Lakes in Nineveh.

He was born Nov. 26, 1917, in DuBois, to Frank J. and Anna K. (Nigg) Fischer.

He married Dorothy Josephine (Fetter) Fischer on Nov. 26, 1958. She preceded him in passing April 3, 2016.

Sam is survived by his children, Joe (Hope) Nutt, Ruth Ann (Jim) Irving, Marsha Summers, Anita Fischer, Susan Fischer, Tim Fischer and Thomas (Beth) Fischer. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jody (Jeff) Nutt McIntosh, Jason Nutt, Jeremy Summers, Ben Merrell, Christina Luettich, Kristina (Joe) Fischer, Lauren Fischer and Nathan Fischer; three great-grandchildren, Ian (Blake) Roberts, Kelsi Baird and Elden Todero; and one great-great-grandchild, Jaxon Roberts.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, wife Dorothy, and 11 siblings.

Sam was a TV repairman for many years. He later worked at Rhoades True Value in Franklin for several years.

He was a member of Nineveh Christian Church where he served as a deacon and elder.

He was a co-founder and the first president of the Nineveh Senior Center.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed tinkering around his home. He spent many days cracking black walnuts.

Rev. Tom Knight will conduct a celebration of Sam’s life at 7 p.m. Thursday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St., (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery at a later date. Military honors will be conducted on Thursday evening, following the service by the U.S. Army and the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205.
