Donald “Dick” Land Jr., died Monday, June 6 , 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Dick was a resident of Franklin and a former lifelong resident of Nineveh.

He was born Oct. 22, 1926 in Nineveh, to Donald Land Sr. and Mellisa (McQuinn) Land.

Dick married Bernita (Sizemore) Land on Oct. 6, 1984. She preceded him in passing.

Dick is survived by two nephews, Ronald A. Land of North Vernon and Timothy S. Land of Cortland, one niece, Louanne Smith of Florida; and sister-in-law, Betty Lou Land of North Vernon; one stepson, Tom Langdon; and one stepgrandson, Anthony Langdon.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; wife, Bernita; brother, Ronald “Jack” Land; and two sons, Steven Land and Michael Land.

Dick was a 1944 graduate of Nineveh High School.

He enjoyed attending the Nineveh Alumni Banquet, not missing one for 73 years.

Dick retired in 1996 from the Greenlawn Cemetery after 52 years of service. Dick was the superintendent for several years at the cemetery.

He also was the owner along with his wife, Bernita, of the Franklin Monument Co. in Franklin from 1986 to 2005.

Dick also worked for several years with the Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin.

He was a member of the Nineveh Christian Church and the Nineveh Masonic Lodge No. 317, F&AM.

The Revs. Tom Knight and Charles Stanley will conduct a celebration of Dick’s life at 10 a.m. Friday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
