Police: Man arrested after fighting deputy, trying to get into home

A Franklin man was arrested after police said he tried to break into a home and later fought with police.

Christopher A. Derringer, 46, 697 Samuel St., was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement, battery on a law enforcement officer and intimidation.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to the 5300 block of Birch Lane in the Center Grove area. A resident had reported that Derringer tried to get into his home. The resident also told police Derringer’s dog bit him when he told him to leave, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

When a deputy arrived, Derringer was walking across the street toward his mother’s home and became loud and aggressive when the deputy tried to calm him down and speak to him, according to the report.

Derringer chest-bumped the deputy and tried to knee him in the groin, according to the report.

Derringer was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $3,200 bond.
