Police: Cyclist struck by hit-and-run driver

Police are looking for the driver of a car that struck a bicyclist in Greenwood, and then drove away.

The accident happened at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stonegate and County Line roads.

The bicyclist, Joshua N. Jessie, 26, Greenwood, told police he was riding his bike on the sidewalk on the south side of County Line Road. When he crossed the intersection at Stonegate Road, a red, four-door vehicle heading north struck his rear tire, according to the accident report.

Jessie was thrown from the bicycle and received multiple injuries, including cuts, scrapes and bruises to his arms and legs, the report said. Jessie was taken to Community Hospital South to be treated. His condition was not available on Thursday.

The vehicle that struck him turned east onto County Line Road and drove away without stopping, the report said.

Police are now looking for that vehicle. Officers looked for surveillance cameras in the area and did not find any, and don’t have any more details about the vehicle, Greenwood Police Department spokeswoman Kortney Burrello said.
