Shot fired during domestic dispute

Police were called to a home near Trafalgar after a shot was fired during a dispute.

Just after midnight Tuesday, deputies were called to the home in the 3400 block of West County Road 300S, where a man had fired a gun into the air.

The dispute began with an argument between John A. Boone Jr., 33, Trafalgar, and his girlfriend. The girlfriend’s father told Boone to leave his daughter alone, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The argument continued, and the father fired a warning shot into the air and told Boone to leave, according to the report.

Boone then charged at the man, and the woman called police.

Boone, 7231 S. County Road 300W, was arrested on a charge of battery.

He was first taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital to be checked out after a test showed he had a blood-alcohol content of .24 percent. Boone was then taken to the Johnson County jail and held on $1,000 bond.

The report will be sent to the prosecutor’s office to review the incident involving the gun being fired and the battery, the report said. The prosecutor will decide what, if any, charges should be filed.
