Gladys Marie Smith

Gladys Marie Smith, 85, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016, in Franklin. She was a former longtime resident of Edinburgh.

She was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Lebanon, Tennessee to William Logan and Mary Dell (Steele) Rice.

She married Willie Robert Smith on June 16, 1954.

He preceded her in passing Jan. 6, 1986.

Gladys is survived by one son, Willie Doug (Valerie) Smith of Manchester, Tennessee; one daughter, Bonnie Smith of Edinburgh; two grandsons, Robert Smith of Lynchburg, Tennessee, and E-4 Spec. Thomas Smith of Fort Rucker, Alabama; two sisters, Louise Ruddick of Franklin and Evelyn Heard of Rickman, Tennessee; and one brother, Harvey Rice of Manchester, Tennessee; and her beloved dog, “Penny.”

She was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, Willie; and three brothers, Walter, Bill and Andrew Rice.

She retired from the Franklin United Methodist Community, working in the laundry department for many years.

Gladys was saved and baptized in 1974. She was a member of Lick Spring Baptist Church. Gladys enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Pastor Peter Baugh will conduct a celebration of Gladys’ life at 11 a.m. Thursday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to the time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery.
