Wildlife refuge offers free fishing event

The annual “Take A Kid Fishing” event at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge is 8 a.m. to noon June 4.

The event will include activities for children, including fishing games, cane-pole making, a fish craft, and “How to Fish” lessons. Fishing tackle and bait will be provided and fishing poles will be available for use. Prizes will be awarded to youngsters catching the biggest fish during the event.

Free Fishing Day in Indiana is June 4 and on that day no one needs a fishing license. The Muscatatuck Wildlife Society, the non-profit refuge support group, is the primary sponsor of this annual event. The Take A Kid Fishing event aims to connect young people with nature by showing them the fun of fishing.

The Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge is located three miles east of Interstate 65 at Seymour on U.S. 50. For more information, call 812-522-4352 or send an email to [email protected]
