Lane shifts, closure coming for bridge work

Commuters should be prepared for changes on Interstate 65 as work continues to rebuild a bridge in Greenwood.

Starting next week, lanes will be shifted so that crews can begin work to demolish and rebuild the bridge over Main Street for southbound traffic, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Crews will begin shifting lanes of traffic Wednesday night.

The state is also planning to close Hurricane Road, just south of the Whiteland exit, starting June 6 while crews rebuild the bridge over I-65, the release said.

Traffic will be detoured to Whiteland Road.

The work is part of the state’s $84 million project to widen I-65 to three lanes in each direction between Main Street in Greenwood and the Franklin exit.

Crews are working on laying new pavement on inside lanes between Whiteland and Franklin, and will soon begin removing pavement between Worthsville Road and Main Street in Greenwood as part of that widening project.
