James William Baumgardner, Sr.

FRANKLIN

James William Baumgardner Sr., 77, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.

He was born March 16, 1939, in Upton, Kentucky, to Otis Brooklyn and Corlie (Smith) Baumgardner.

Jim married Barbara Lee Hodges on June 7, 1956. She lovingly survives.

Also surviving are children, Rhonda (Jeffrey) Black of Franklin; James “Bill” (Sherri) Baumgardner of Indianapolis and Gregory (Janet) Baumgardner of Noblesville; nine grandchildren, Grant (Teairra) Black, Brook Baumgardner, Drew (Codi) Baumgardner, Lauren (Nick Jones) Baumgardner, Hayden Baumgardner, Madde (Richie) Johnson, Avery Baumgardner, Emily Blackburn and Chandler Baumgardner; and eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Brooklyne, Hannah, Kiley, Marriah, Braelyne, Zyla and Roman.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; seven brothers; and three sisters.

Jim attended East Hardin High School in Glendale, Kentucky.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Kentucky National Guard.

He was employed by REMC in Johnson County as a lineman supervisor for 27 years, retiring in 1997.

Jim was a member of Second Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He also was a member of the Gideon’s International; Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 107, F&AM and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite. Jim was a Kentucky Colonel.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family.

The Rev. Dan McCollough will conduct a celebration of Jim’s life at 6 p.m. Saturday at Second Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 1540 N. County Road 800 East, Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205.
