Brian Matthew Byers


Brian Matthew Byers, 48, of Indianapolis began his new journey in heaven on Thursday, May 19, at 1:47 p.m., after a two-year battle against metastatic melanoma.

Brian was born in Indianapolis on Dec. 24, 1967, to Donald Byers and Sandra Jo Byers (Taylor) of Indianapolis.

He is survived by his parents; best friend and spouse Jennifer Lynn (Devney) of Indianapolis; daughter Meaghan Byers of Indianapolis, son, Josh Byers (Brittney Conway) of Tampa, Florida; special stepdaughters, Stephanie Johnson (Cody) of Indianapolis and Jessica Edwards of Indianapolis; loyal K9 companion Max; sister Carol Ann Sella (Perry) of Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania; nephews, Nathan Weaver (Lisa) of Indianapolis and Jake Weaver (Margaret) of Pendleton, niece Kristen Tallman (Eric) of Jessup, Pennsylvania; granddaughter Parker Hadley Johnson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Reverend James and Carol (Davis) Devney of Greenwood; brother-in-law, Jamie Devney of Nashville; and several extended nieces and nephews.

Brian was graduated from Perry Meridian High School in 1986 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1988. He served two terms and was stationed in Florida, England, Turkey, Germany and in Iraq during the first Gulf War/Desert Storm.

He was employed at Johnson Controls as an IT supervisor, a.k.a. Computer Geek, and he loved his Johnson Controls family, especially his lunch euchre buddies.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at IU Simon Cancer Center and Gentiva Hospice, especially his incredible Nurse Sheila, and Dr. John Walker.

There was no one who loved God, his family and his country more, and his family cannot wait to see him again in Heaven.

The Rev. Danny Anderson will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Monday at Emmanuel Church’s Greenwood Campus, 1640 W. Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time Monday at the church. A private burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

Brian loved his church and requested that in lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions be made to Emmanuel Church’s multi-site fund, 1640 W. Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood, IN 46143.
