Trojans triumph again

Another week, another tournament, another championship for the Center Grove High School boys golf team.

Coming off a win at least week’s State Preview at Prairie View Golf Club, the top-ranked Trojans followed up Monday by winning the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference championship at — where else? — Prairie View, home to next month’s IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals.

Center Grove easily outpaced runner-up Carmel, 292 to 302. North Central was a distant third at 377, followed by Ben Davis (398), Lawrence Central (417), Lawrence North (431) and Warren Central 454.

Trojans junior Ethan Shepherd earned medalist honors with 3-under-par 69. He also was the individual winner of the State Preview.

Rounding out Center Grove’s top five at the MIC were sophomore Sam Jean with 71, sophomore Noah Gillard with 73, junior Tyler Rankel with 79 and senior Jackson Williams with 82.

Softball players recognized

In the wake of a record-setting season, three Franklin College softball players have region honors.Senior Katie Struewing and juniors Megan Lalioff and Savannah Blevins have been named second team All-Central Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

A Greenwood Community High School graduate, Struewing hit .403, belted five homers, 23 doubles and led the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with 45 RBIs.

She also scored 35 runs.

Lalioff, from Fishers High School, hit a team-high .456 and scored 39 runs. She collected 52 total hits and was 12 of 14 on stolen base attempts.

Blevins, from Eastern Hancock, hit .400 with a team-high seven home runs. She also had 12 doubles and 31 RBIs.

Franklin won a single-season school record 25 games and reached the HCAC tournament for the second time in four years.

Baseball players earn league honors

Six Franklin College baseball players have earned All-HCAC recognition.Jordan Clark, a freshman from Connersville, was named first team after sparking the Grizzlies in a number of categories.

An outfielder and pitcher, Clark hit .339 with 15 doubles and 32 RBIs and scored 29 runs. On the mound, he was 3-3 as a starter with 41 strikeouts.

Teammates Hayden Cleveland, a senior, and junior Jacob McMain and sophomores Frank Podkul and Christian Sullivan were honorable-mention selections.

Senior Joe Ardizzone from Roncalli was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

FC hoops offers tournament

Registration is underway for the Franklin Griz Hoops 3 on 3 Tournament, slated for June 25 and 26 at Franklin College.Open to boys and girls in grades 3 through 8 and to adult men and women, the event is a fundraiser for the Franklin College men’s basketball team.

The entry fee by June 1 is $100 per four-person team. The fee after June 1 is $120 per team.

Pool play is organized by gender and age group. Competition for grades 3 through 8 happens on June 25. High school and adult play happens June 26.
