Jazz orchestra to perform big band tribute

A jazzy tribute to Hoosier history is the theme of a concert this weekend in Lawrence.

Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra’s Big Band tribute to Indiana’s bicentennial, “Back Home Again in Indiana,” will feature music from famous Hoosiers Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael. This concert also will feature music written for and about the great state of Indiana.

The show will start at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Avenue, Lawrence.

The orchestra will be accompanied by Julie Powers and Russell Moss and will highlight hits from the Great American Songbook. The concert’s venue, the historic Theater at the Fort was the theater that served Fort Benjamin Harrison for many years.
