Smoke in downtown office building

Employees at a downtown Franklin office building had to evacuate after a small fire started in the bathroom.

The fire began in Johnson County Land Title, 40 E. Jefferson St., just before 2 p.m. Friday.

An employee called the fire department after noticing smoke inside the building. Firefighters found a small fire had started in the bathroom. Firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames, Franklin Fire Department spokesman Chuck Ridpath said.

Police officers and firefighters had to block traffic on Jefferson Street, just east of Main Street, for less than an hour. No one was injured.
