GREENWOOD

Delmo West, 73, of Greenwood, died Sunday May 8, 2016, at his residence in Greenwood.

Del was born in Russell Springs, Kentucky, on April 5, 1943, to A.Z. and Lenora (Thorton) West.

Del graduated from Mooresville High School in 1963.

He ran a retail milk route with Golden Guernsey Farms in Southport for 14 years. He retired from GM Allison Gas Turbine after 28 years of service.

Del spent his life as an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved woodworking and has made many pieces of fine furniture for the grandchildren. He loved tying fishing flies and gardening.

Del was a devout Christian who read his Bible through twice a year. He witnessed his love for Christ to everyone he met and always to his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood for many years. He was a current member of Bluff Creek Christian Church in Greenwood.

Del was preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Richard Lee West.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marlene (Lee) West of Greenwood; two daughters, Loree (Gary) Ross of Greenwood and Wendee West-Scheurer of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Hannah Ross, Logan Ross and Jordan (Hannah) Scheurer; one great-grandchild, Caleb Joest; four brothers, Ruel (Rosemary) West of Seymour, Elmer (Beverly) West of Thomasville, Georgia, Vernon (Judy) West of Greenwood and Charles (Chris) West of Mooresville; seven nieces and nephews; and his loyal schnauzer, Andrew.

The Rev. Jeremy Towne will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday  at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery near Waverly.
