Man arrested after pursuit on I-65

An Edinburgh man was arrested after a pursuit on Interstate 65 on Sunday morning.

Police arrested William Dilts, 30, on a charge of criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and being a habitual traffic offender, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 7:30 a.m., a state trooper stopped a vehicle on I-65 near the Whiteland Road exit for speeding, but the vehicle then drove away, heading south. The vehicle got off the interstate on U.S. 31 in Taylorsville and headed north into Amity and then into Edinburgh, according to an Indiana State Police news release.

Police used stop sticks and flattened three tires on the vehicle in Edinburgh. The driver then got out of the vehicle and ran and was arrested in the backyard of a home, the release said. No one was injured in the pursuit.

Dilts, 304 Shelby Ave., was taken to the Johnson County jail and held on $34,500 bond.
