Police arrest man after pursuit

Police arrested a man after a pursuit east of Franklin that ended in a field.

Terry L. Thornburgh Jr., 37, Bargersville, was arrested on a charge of resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness, and on a warrant.

Franklin police were called to a home in the 200 block of Terre Haute Street at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday about a man who had been harassing a woman, according to the police report.

Officers found the truck the caller had described and tried to stop it, but the driver did not stop. The chase continued from neighborhood streets onto Arvin Road and then Eastview Drive, through Paris Estates and then onto Lovers Lane near Interstate 65. The vehicle turned onto Greensburg Road, before turning onto other county roads and then pulling into a field off County Road 450S, the report said.

The vehicle got stuck in mud in the field, and the driver got out and ran. A woman inside the vehicle did not run and told police she had begged the driver to stop, the report said.

Officers arrested Thornburgh, who said he had run because he had a warrant for his arrest, the report said.

Thornburgh, 7340 W. Division Road, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held without bond.
