Kory Allen Grein

GREENWOOD

Kory Allen Grein, 21, of Greenwood, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016.

He was born July 25, 1994, in Indianapolis. Kory grew up in Greenwood starting at age 3 until he graduated high school and joined the Army National Guard. He attended kindergarten at Southwest Elementary School. He then attended Northeast Elementary School from first through fifth grades and Greenwood Middle School sixth through eighth grades. He attended Greenwood High School ninth through 12th grades and graduated in 2013.

He started wrestling in the sixth grade, which quickly became his passion. He continued wrestling through his junior year, when unfortunately three concussions prevented him from continuing to wrestle his senior year. He also ran track during his junior and senior years.

Kory attended C-9 for law enforcement his junior and senior year and was a senior member of Englewood DeMolay. He worked for Gander Mountain and Amazon before joining the Army National Guard in November 2013.

He graduated from basic training in May 2014 as an infantryman. He then transferred to the North Carolina National Guard, 11th Bravo as an Infantryman in August 2014 through August 2015 while he was a volunteer with Crains Creek Fire Department. He then returned to the Indiana National Guard, A Company 2-152 Infantry Regiment. He was all about being a soldier and serving his country from an early age.

Kory loved the outdoors and going camping at Hidden Paradise in St. Paul. He also loved boating at Lake Monroe, fishing, mudding and bonfires. He enjoyed being goofy with friends, country music, especially Luke Bryan, and being a rebel.

Survivors include mother Joanna (Grein) Colson, stepfather Brian Colson Sr.; half-brother Zachary Colson, half-sister Marissa Colson; stepbrother Brian Colson Jr. and stepsister, Brittany Colson; nephew Lincoln Torres; grandfather, John Grein; uncle, Andrew “A.J.” Grein; cousin, Jasper Grein; girlfriend, Brooke Browning; and several extended family members.

He was preceded in death by grandmother, Glenda Grein in 2004.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, 7520 Madison Ave. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
