Jobless numbers steady in March

The local unemployment rate stayed the same last month and is nearly the same as it was last year.

Johnson County had about 3,500 people out of work last month, for an unemployment rate of 4.5 percent.

Those numbers are similar to the same time last year, but the county’s workforce has grown by about 3 percent since then, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Across central Indiana, most county unemployment rates stayed nearly the same or increased slightly last month, compared to February. Most counties also have rates similar to what they were at this time last year.

Johnson County’s rate is one of the lowest in the state, with the county ranking at No. 81 statewide, according to the department of workforce development.
