James A. Ritter

EDINBURGH

James A. Ritter, 80, of Edinburgh, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

He was born March 5, 1936, in Lawrence County. He was the son of James M. and Maggie I. (Norman) Ritter.

He married Helen I. (Browning) Ritter on Jan. 29, 1971, and she preceded him in death Nov. 22, 2006.

He is survived by a son, Jim Ritter of Florida; daughters, Barbara Stolle of Georgia, Kim Morgan of Georgia, Linda Mordue of Georgia and Karen Brownlee of Ohio; a granddaughter, Stacy Ritter of Franklin; and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Waunetta Hilderbrand of Edinburgh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Arthur Ritter; sisters, Hazel Blackwell, Esther Ritter, Helen Clampitt, Dorothy Ritter and Dortha Ritter.

He was a 1954 graduate of Franklin High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1964. He was a member of the American Legion Post 233 and the former VFW Post 7964 of Edinburgh. He was also a member of the Edinburgh Masonic Lodge No. 100.

He retired in 1998 from United Technology after 30 years of service.

Elder Dereck Mobley will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
