Catholic preschool offering open house

Prospective preschool students of Our Lady of the Greenwood School are invited to an open house.

Children who will be 4 by Aug. 4 are invited to see the school from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Students will spend time in each classroom while doing typical preschool activities. To sign up for the open house, call 881-1300 or email [email protected].

Tri Kappa offering grant to Center Grove seniors

Center Grove High School seniors are eligible for scholarships.

Center Grove Zeta Lambda Chapter of Tri Kappa will award $1,000 scholarships to two Center Grove High School seniors.

For more information and an application, students can contact their high school counselor.

Completed applications need to be submitted to the guidance office by April 29.

Kindergarten registration set

Parents of students who are starting kindergarten in the fall can register their children this week.

Kindergarten registration has been announced at local school districts.

They are:

Center Grove: 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the elementary school the child will attend. Children must five by Aug. 1. Parents should bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency. Parents wanting to volunteer should bring their driver’s license for a background check.

Greenwood: 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the school where the child will attend.Parents should bring the child’s original birth certificate, current record of immunizations, and proof of residency, such as a utility bill or lease agreement.

Indian Creek: 9 to 10:30 a.m., 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the school’s cafeteria. Families should bring the child’s birth certificate (from the county health department), current immunization records and the child’s Social Security card. Kindergarten students should be at registration as they will be screened.

Middle school students can attend camp

Local middle school students interested in a job in law enforcement can explore the career field during a leadership camp this summer.

The 37th annual Indiana Sheriff’s Youth Leadership Camp will be July 11 to 13 at Waycross Episcopal Camp near Morgantown.

The camp is for boys and girls in seventh or eighth grade.

Roncalli students traveling abroad

Five Roncalli High School students have been chosen to travel abroad.

The students were accepted into the 2016 IU Honors World Languages Study Abroad program. These students will stay with a host family for six weeks this summer. They will attend school for five hours daily and participate in excursions in their country of study.

Participants include:

  • Studying in France: Grant Lenahan and Josie Niezgodski.
  • Studying in Austria: Devin Boehm.
  • Studying in Spain: Sarah Johnston and Kaitlin McCarthy

Local counseling program wins award

A counseling program in Franklin has won a statewide award.

The Indiana Department of Education announced 21 additional Promising Practices programs throughout the state. The Promising Practices program recognizes high-quality education practices and wrap-around services in schools throughout Indiana.

Creekside Elementary School was honored for comprehensive counseling.
