2 men arrested; police dog helps with search

Police arrested two men after several items were stolen from a convenience store.

A police dog found one of the men hiding inside a recreational vehicle after a traffic stop in Franklin early Friday morning, according to the police report.

Dustin M. Martin, 27, 102 Southwest St., Alexandria, was arrested on a charge of resisting law enforcement and on a warrant from another county. Anthony Richards, 23, 102 S. West St., Alexandria, was arrested on a charge of theft.

Just after 4 a.m., another driver had followed the recreational vehicle from a truck stop in Whiteland, where he suspected one of the men had stolen items, to a fast food restaurant in Franklin on King Street, just off Interstate 65. Police ordered Richards out of the recreational vehicle, and then sent a police dog into the vehicle to find anyone else. Martin was found hiding under a bench inside the vehicle. He was treated and released from Johnson Memorial Hospital for bites, the report said.

Both men were arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where Martin was held without bond and Richards was held on $1,000 bond.
