Marie Burton Sallee

EDINBURGH

Marie Burton Sallee, 93, of Edinburgh, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Bell Trace Health and Living Center in Bloomington.

She was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Adair County, Kentucky.

She was the daughter of John Wright and Dorinda (Bryant) Burton.

She married Shelly Hansel Sallee on Aug. 5, 1942, and he preceded her in death April 15, 2003.

She is survived by a son, Shelly H. Sallee Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Bloomington; granddaughters, Anita (Kurt Kabula) Owen, Michelle Ayres, Jill (Mark) Burris and Nichole (Jeff) Smith; great-grandchildren, Nick, Andy, Sam, Mike, Will and Addison; brothers, Coy (Carol) Burton and Edward “Cotton” Burton, both of of Columbia, Kentucky; and sister, Reba (Ray) Tankersly of Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Jimmy, Rollin, Pete, Lawrence and Norman Burton; and sisters, Sophia Burton, Maudie Sinclair, Berthie Giles and Mary Jane Burton.

She was a member of the Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church.

She was known for her smile that would light up a room.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church, reading her Bible, cooking, canning, quilting, working in her flower garden and watching IU basketball.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S. Main St., Edinburgh. Calling will be from 4 to  8 p.m. Friday at the church and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday.
