Garden to consumer

Purdue Extension is offering a “Garden 2 Consumer” class series for people who grow produce in a home garden or bake goods at home to sell.

The Purdue Extension office will host the series, which will be April 6, 13 and 20.

In 2015, the Food Safety Modernization Act was finalized with recommendations on how to reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses from fresh produce. The series offers entrepreneurs valuable information for growing and producing safe, high-quality foods and baked goods.

Topics will include foodborne illnesses, legalities of becoming a home-based vendor, certifications and other safety training, as well as how to keep produced or processed foods fresh at their point of sale.
