Bands earn honors at competitions

Local jazz and percussion groups snagged top honors in weekend competitions.

Whiteland Community High School’s jazz choir, Shades of Blue, was named the honor choir at the Indiana State School Music Association vocal jazz finals. Greenwood’s vocal jazz choir was named a finalist.

Shades of Blue also received caption awards for Best Soprano Section, Best Alto Section, and Best Tenor Section.

The Whiteland JV Winter Guard placed fifth in the state, competing in Class AA at the Indiana High School State Color Guard Divisional Finals at Mooresville High School. Indian Creek’s color guard earned a silver rating. A group from Center Grove snagged third place.

Center Grove’s world guard placed fourth at the MidSouth WGI Regional in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Whiteland’s indoor percussion ensemble performed at Decatur Central High School for the Indiana Percussion Association preliminaries, placing seventh in Open Concert Class. Franklin’s indoor drum line placed sixth in preliminary competition.
