Hospitals battling flu outbreak

Visitors are being restricted at two southside hospitals due to concerns about the flu.

Both Community Hospital South and Franciscan St. Francis on the southside will put visitor restrictions in place starting Friday. Franciscan St. Francis also has restrictions at its Carmel and Mooresville locations, and Community Health has restrictions at its other locations. Johnson Memorial Hospital does not have any restrictions.

Under the restrictions, the hospitals will not allow visitors who:

Have flu-like illness, fever or cough.

Are younger than age 18, unless they are parents of children who are patients.

Are not immediate family, partner, significant other or spiritual counselor.

The restrictions were requested by Marion County Public Health Department. They will be lifted based on local flu activity.
