A long-time Colts’ fan, Mandy King and her husband have been season-ticket holders for 14 years.
Like most Colts loyalists, she was disappointed when Peyton Manning was released four years ago but felt a different emotion when he officially announced his retirement Monday.
“It’s kind of sad,” said King, who “married” into the season tickets and has been a Manning supporter ever since.
She admires him not only as a great football player, but as a non-pretentious person who gave back to the city and had a heart for helping children.
That’s what she remembers most about Manning, and was one of the many reasons she still cheered for him in Denver.
“He was just down to earth and seemed to help people in the community,” King said. “Obviously (he’s) an excellent player, but he seems like a genuinely nice guy.
“He’s good with the youth and the (Peyton Manning Children’s) hospital.”
