Bargersville student wins Blue Babe’s scholarship

A student from Bargervsille has won an international scholarship.

Kathleen Stoughton, an Indiana Wesleyan College student, is a recipient of the Blue Babe’s Foundation scholarship winner through Hallmark.

Winners are students who are interested in careers in the writing arts. Each of the two recipients receive a $10,000 scholarship and the right to attend a summer writing workshop at Hallmark’s headquarters in Missouri.

Roncalli student honored for overcoming obstacles

A Roncalli High School senior was honored with a scholarship.

Jonathon Cardinal was honored at the Kiwanis Club’s Abe Lincoln Scholarship banquet.

He was one of 25 students honored with the Kiwanis Club of Indianapolis’ Circle of Valor Award given to area high school seniors who have overcome significant obstacles in their lives.

Local preschool offers open house for students

Prospective preschool students of Our Lady of the Greenwood School are invited to an open house.

Children who will be 4 by Aug. 4 are invited to see the school from 9 to 10:30 a.m. April 15.

Students will spend time in each classroom while doing typical preschool activities. To sign up for the open house, call 881-1300 or email dspearing@ ol-g.org.

Scholarship available for future music majors

Johnson County high school graduating seniors who intend to pursue a career in music may be eligible for a scholarship from a local music advocacy group.

Matinee Musicale is offering a $600 scholarship. Students must have a B or higher grade point average and must have been accepted into the school of music at an accredited college or university.

A recital will be conducted on April 10 in which winning students will be required to participate.

Students, write in: Why is your teacher best?

A teacher supply store is encouraging students to explain why their teacher is the best. Students of any age can write a short essay of 250 words or fewer explaining why their teacher is outstanding.

Essays are accepted at any United Art and Education store.

Kindergarten registration set for Franklin students

Kindergarten registration will be April 5 for Franklin families. Parents of upcoming kindergarten students are invited to register their children from 4 to 7 p.m. at the schools.

Baxter YMCA offering program for ages 2 to 7

Registration for the Baxter YMCA preschool will begin today. Current students may enroll at that time. New students may begin enrollment March 7.

The program is designed for children ages 2 through 5. The YMCA offers 2½-hour or four-hour classes in the morning and afternoons two, three, four or five days a week.

Scholarship available for students studying in Indiana

Franklin Community High School students planning to attend an Indiana college or university are eligible for a scholarship. Applications for the $2,000 Gilmore Trust Scholarship are available at the guidance office of the high school. Students must be graduating seniors of Franklin Community High School and plan to enroll full time in any Indiana college or university.

Applications are due March 31.
