Jerry L. Ruth

INDIANAPOLIS

Jerry L. Ruth, 77, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016. He peacefully passed in his home in Indianapolis.

Jerry was born in Indianapolis to the late Opal (Edens) and Harold Ruth.

Jerry graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1956.

In 1958 he went to work at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis; he retired in 1994 after 36 years of employment. During his time there he worked alongside Dr. Jonas Salk in the development of the polio vaccine, and retired from The Capsule Dept at Eli Lilly & Co.

In retirement he became an avid golfer, founding a golf group at Greenfield Plantation in Bradenton, Florida, where he and Betty lived for 12 years before returning to Indiana in 2008.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Betty (Jackson) Ruth; his sister, Janet Hodge of Jacksonville, Florida; a daughter, Kari (Ron) Corbett and a son, Greg (Nisha) Ruth of Riverview, Florida; two granddaughters, April Poteet of Union, Kentucky, and Allison Poteet of Chicago, a grandson, Adam Corbett; two great-grandsons, Blane Vaughn and Oakley Oulay.

Services will be held Tuesday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the service following at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery following the service.
