Carolee Herron

FRANKLIN

Carolee Herron, 78, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

She was born July 22, 1937, in Maulden, Kentucky, to George Edward Ward and Dorothy (Bingham) Ward.

She married Ronald L. Herron on June 29, 1963, in Hayden. He survives.

She was a graduate of Hayden High School, a 1960 graduate of Franklin College and received her master’s degree in education from Indiana University in Bloomington.

She had been a first-grade elementary school teacher at Northeast Elementary School for Greenwood Community Schools for 31 years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of Gracepoint Church in Whiteland, where she was involved in the ladies’ Bible study.

She was a former member of Amity Baptist Church where she and her husband were involved and supportive of several mission trips and church camps.

She was a member of the Indiana Teachers Union and a 50-year member of the Hayden Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 253.

She enjoyed scrapbooking, quilting, traveling to Florida, going to the beach and Monarch butterflies. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.

Survivors include her loving husband, Ronald L. Herron of Franklin; son, Michael R. Herron (Carla) of Franklin; daughter, Kristen C. Ratzman (Jon) of Greenwood; grandchildren, Amanda Stevenson-Holmes (Matt) of Greenwood, Joshua Stevenson of Houston, Texas, Abigail Mentzer (Austin) of Bargersville, Jared Herron of Greenwood, Kaitlyn Proehl of Greenwood, Trevor Proehl of Greenwood, and Samuel Ratzman of Greenwood; one great-granddaughter, Avelyn Mentzer; a brother, Eddie Ward of Greenwood; sisters, Bobby Prewitt (Dennis) of Perdido Bay, Florida, and Shirley Bibb of Frankton, Indiana; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and three aunts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dottie Ward; and sister-in-law, Tanya; and brother-in-law, Cliff.

The Rev. Zack Scellato will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street), Franklin. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood.
