Soup, shelter and support

Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County’s annual Soup Bowl is set for Sunday — where a warm bowl of soup can help the less fortunate own their own homes.

The fundraising event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at Scott Hall at the Johnson County fairgrounds in Franklin.

For $25, attendees get to pick out a handmade pottery bowl and enjoy soups donated by local restaurants, as well as bread, dessert and drink. A silent auction will be held — items will include pottery.

Buy your tickets in advance in Franklin at Horizon Bank, Mutual Savings Bank and First Merchants Bank and at the First Merchants Bank in Greenwood as well as the Habitat ReStore in Whiteland.

Habitat builds houses in partnership with qualified low-income clients. Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, ability to repay a no-interest mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat. The homeowners’ mortgage payments go directly to Habitat to support the construction of additional homes across the county.
