A man was arrested after police said he led them on a short chase near Trafalgar, and then drank beer in front of officers.

Jimmy J. Koller, 27, 7915 N. Oak Ridge Road, Morgantown, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol.

Just before noon Wednesday, a deputy saw Koller’s vehicle passing vehicles on State Road 44 in a no-passing zone and speeding, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. As the deputy caught up to the vehicle, it continued passing others in no-passing zones, and he saw that Koller was giving other drivers a peace sign, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but it sped up to 85 mph and drove for about 2 miles before stopping at a gas station off State Road 135 in Trafalgar.

Koller got out of the vehicle and then reached inside and grabbed an open beer and began drinking it in front of officers. Koller told police he’d had several drinks, the report said. Police took the beer away and dumped it out.

He was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.16 percent, the report said. Koller was held at the jail on $1,000 bond.
